Kōrero mō te Tūranga - About the Role

The role of the Senior Adviser/Adviser within the Plant Assurance team is pivotal in progressing the development and strengthening of the export assurance systems for horticulture, forestry products, plants and seeds.

This role has a particular focus on phytosanitary (plant health) requirements for exports.
As part of the role at the Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI), the Adviser will contribute to / the Senior Adviser will lead the following:

  • Liaise across MPI to develop and strengthen plant assurance frameworks
  • Provide advice and direction to verification agencies for the delivery of plant export requirements
  • Monitoring, assessment and reporting on the performance of the plant export assurance systems
  • Contribute to the negotiation of market access requirements.
Plant Assurance works in a constantly evolving environment, so specific work activities may change in line with changing expectations.
Mōu - About You

You will be a great collaborator and will engage with the Team Manager Plant Assurance and the wider team to help enhance the plant export assurance frameworks.

Ideally you will have a relevant tertiary qualification in horticultural, food or biological sciences or equivalent. You will have confidence to gather, organise and communicate technical information in simple and understandable terms.

In this role you will use excellent stakeholder and engagement skills and use analytical and problem-solving skills to make sound judgements.

Plant Assurance is part of the Plant, Wine and Organic Assurance group (PWO) which is responsible for the Plant Assurance Programme, Wine Assurance Programme and Official Organics Assurance Programme.

PWO plays a key role in assuring the integrity, safety and reputation of New Zealand's exported food and primary products.
