We are looking for an enthusiastic team member with public sector knowledge and excellent relationship management skills to be a valued member of our Ministerial Services team. This is a fixed term position to 28 March 2025 backfilling due to parental leave.
Kōrero mō te tūranga | About the roleWe are the Government's Principal Advisors on the cultural system and in this role no two days are the same You will have a unique opportunity to get involved in supporting the cultural sector which contributes $16 billion to New Zealand's GDP annually and over 117,000 primary employment jobs, ranging from screen production to symphonies, broadcasting to ballet, kapa haka to heritage, and more.
You will work within a small and close-knit team to draft responses to Ministerial correspondence, speeches, parliamentary questions and requests for official information. You will also have the opportunity to lead different workstreams and projects and to make the role your own.
As a Senior Adviser you will be a trusted ‘go-to' person within the team to help with trouble shooting, triaging and mentoring other members of the team. You will also be tasked with assisting and leading training and upskilling for other parts of the Ministry.
A focus on quality writing and political nous are critical components of the role, as is the ability to work independently to tight deadlines and work collaboratively within the team and wider organisation. You will be a liaison between the Ministry and Ministers' Offices so ensuring high quality Ministerial products is a key part of your responsibilities.

- Experience in leading projects
- Leadership/mentoring experience
- Sound knowledge of the Official Information Act and parliamentary processes
- Previous public sector experience (or equivalent experience)
- Passion for continuous improvement and asking how we can do things better.
- Commitment to developing your cultural capability in te ao Māori.
