  • Two positions available, one permanent, one fixedterm contract or secondment through to end of April 2024.


The Ministerial Services team is responsible for the management of Corrections' official correspondence and provides a crucial link between Corrections and the public.

The team ensures that all responses to official correspondence are consistent, accurate, and effective.
Following a resignation and an internal secondment, we're looking for two equally amazing people to join our team. We have one permanent position and one fixed term or secondment available until April 2024.

Mō te tūnga | About the role

The Ministerial Services Adviser is responsible for drafting replies to official correspondence and other documents, within established timeframes, and to a high-quality standard.


Key role accountabilities include:

  • Prepare responses to official correspondence on behalf of the Department (letters, Chief Executive correspondence, and responses to Official Information Act (OIA) and Privacy Act requests).
  • Undertake research and analysis to ensure enquiries are fully addressed and responses are robust.
  • Peer reviewing work for each other ensuring consistency and quality of the responses across the team.
  • Provide expert advice to Departmental employees, including building relationships, regarding OIA and Privacy Act legislation requirements.
Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experience

  • A good working knowledge of, and experience with, the OIA and the Privacy Act.
  • An indepth understanding of Corrections, including knowledge of Corrections' operational processes. Previous Corrections or justice sector experience is ideal.
  • Ability to think strategically and analytically, and to understand, identify, and manage organisational risk.
  • Can identify issues that are likely to be sensitive and develop appropriate strategies to manage them.
  • Proven ability to prioritise workloads, work under pressure, and to tight timeframes and to make timely decisions that stand up to scrutiny
  • Superior written and oral communication skills
  • Evidence of strong record keeping and an understanding why it is important.
  • Experience with confidential and sensitive information.
  • Previous Ministerial Services experience

Utu ā-tau | Salary
The salary range is between $66,411 and $93,756. Appointment and remuneration will reflect skills and experience relevant to the role.
