Kōrero mō te Tūranga - About the Role

The National Communications Centre, acting on behalf of the Director General, provides a health and safety monitoring service for those staff members travelling or operating away from their normal place of work and, in the event of an emergency, provides critical incident management.


Some of your duties as a NCC Officer will involve:

  • Minute by minute monitoring of field staff safety and providing real-time information to them
  • Providing a "Get Home Safe" function for those travelling
  • Recreational fishing regulations advice to public enquiries
  • Screening and processing reports of possible illegal fishing activity
Mōu - About You
You'll likely be working, or have worked, in a customer facing role/contact centre and will ideally have the following:

  • Experience in a busy environment and remaining calm under pressure
  • Strong and concise communication skills
  • Willingness to learn and empathetic approach
  • Ability to build and maintain working relationships with stakeholders
Mō tō mātou Rōpū - About the Team

This exciting role provides safety overwatch for our field teams and effectively a Ministry centric 111 system for our staff.

In staying connected you will be required to use two-way radio, land line, satphone and satellite-based texting to monitor deployed staff.

All MPI vehicles are also tracked with emergency and collision alarms.
Operators work rotating shifts of generally 10 hours and eight shifts every fortnight.

Ngā Taki Whakahaumaru - Security checks
Low level Security Clearance
- most preferably a NZ citizen, who has resided continuously in NZ for at least the last five (5) years, OR
- is a citizen of, and/or has resided continuously in one or more of the following countries for the last five (5) years: either Australia, Canada, NZ, the United Kingdom (UK) or the United States of America (USA); and has a background history that is verifiable and can be assessed as appropriate by the NZ Security Intelligence Service (NZSIS) towards a recommendation of suitability for a security clearance at this level.
