Make a positive difference in a vital sector
:

-
New for-purpose role in a dynamic regulatory body
:

-
A broad and varied comms and engagement opportunity on Customhouse Quay.

The Real Estate Authority - Te Mana Papawhenua, is the independent government agency that regulates the New Zealand real estate profession.

This is an organisation that seeks to improve the wellbeing of New Zealanders through overseeing the maintenance of professional standards and preventing consumer harm.

Their purpose is to protect the interests of consumers buying and selling real estate, and to promote public confidence in the performance of real estate agency work.

The Real Estate Authority (REA) licenses and provides regulatory advice and guidance for real estate professionals, manages complaints about licensed professionals' conduct, as well as producing high quality independent information to support people from New Zealand's diverse communities to navigate the property buying and selling process, including through the media and their consumer website,

REA is seeking a proven senior communications advisor who would describe themselves as a generalist but also have experience in either stakeholder engagement or media management.

Being in a smaller organisation, this position will offer the opportunity to engage on both strategic programmes and end-to-end projects, liaising with internal and external stakeholders through to a senior level.

This means you will truly see the value of your work throughout Aotearoa New Zealand.

In this role you will:

  • Be part of a dynamic Communications & Engagement team focussed on preventing consumer harm by empowering consumers and industry professionals alike through building awareness and understanding across a variety of channels,
  • Play a key role in delivering REA's external communications strategy, plan and activities,
  • Develop key messages, accountability documents, presentations and other highly engaging content for both external and internal audiences across multiple channels,
  • Manage media relations and identify risks and opportunities to build reputation in the media,
  • Support the delivery of REA's strategic engagement with the sector including consumer groups that represent diverse communities, government entities and the wider property system.

What you will bring:

  • An experienced lens to communications, ideally with experience in either stakeholder engagement or media
  • Excellent writing skills, a master of plain English, able to understand and distil complex information (including with a legal/regulatory component) for a range of channels.
  • An ability to tailor communications and engagement for a variety of audiences with a strong diversity lens,
  • A proactive approach and the ability to build positive relationships with people at all levels including experience with managing vendor relationships,
  • The ability to provide sound strategic advice and influence senior level stakeholders,
  • An understanding of te ao Māori
  • Experience working in the public sector.

Benefits:

  • Four weeks' annual leave plus another three REA leave days,
  • Highly collegial team providing great opportunity to grow and develop,
  • A flat structure with opportunity to work with people right across the organisation,
  • An ability to see your work recognised both internally at the senior level, and through success stories when people are buying and selling homes,
  • Involvement in rewarding and complex work,
  • A work environment supportive of flexible working arrangements and a focus on employee wellbeing.

APPLICATIONS CLOSE:

Monday 15 May 2023 or sooner, based on the interest in the role.
