If the land is well and the sea is well, the people will thrive.

The Department of Conservation Te Papa Atawhai (DOC) serves to protect and sustain nature across Aotearoa.

We put nature and people at the heart of our mahi, guided by te reo Māori, te ao Māori and Te Tiriti o Waitangi.

We do this by:
- protecting land, species, ecosystems, and cultural heritage for conservation purposes
- managing threats and adverse impacts
- being a voice for conservation
- connecting people to nature.

The Predator Free 2050 (PF2050) DOC programme is seeking a Senior Communications Advisor to join their team on a two-year fixed-term contract.

As the Senior Communications Advisor, you will play a critical role in communicating the value, impact, and investment into Predator Free 2050 to a wide range of cross sector stakeholders.

The PF2050 Senior Communications Advisor role is a critical position within the PF2050 sector-wide programme.

The PF2050 movement aims to eradicate predators across Aotearoa and invests money across the programme to ensure real outcomes and a meaningful return on investment.

The PF2050 movement is a ground-up, national programme that has high profile and ministerial interests, including a bi-bipartisan approach and involvement from regional councils.

It also involves a cross-agency/ sector initiative including the Ministry for the Environment, LINZ, MPI, e-NGOs such as the Predator Free New Zealand Trust, PF2050 Limited, iwi and hapū, community conservation groups, rural and business sectors and private and landowners.

He angitūtanga | About the role**As PF2050 Senior Communications Advisor, you will work across 30-plus independent collaborative groups. There are a number of priority groups within the PF2050 movement, and key to successful communication will be the ability to create a coherent voice and enable learnings and expertise to be shared across the system. This requires the ability to tell stories strategically and action communications objectively. You will understand the nuance and importance of communication sequencing and which channels to use for maximum impact.

This role will also be responsible for developing a comprehensive strategy to inform the movement and network about the value, impact, and investment into PF2050.

This role is being hosted by the Department of Conservation. The position will ideally be located in Wellington, however we will consider other locations for the right person.

In this role you will:
- develop and implement a comprehensive communications strategy to promote the PF2050 programme and its successes to stakeholders, including the public, government agencies, NGOs, community groups, and private landowners
- build relationships with key stakeholders and work collaboratively with 30+ independent groups to ensure a coordinated and effective approach to communications
- manage the production of high-quality communications materials, including website content, media releases, social media content, and marketing collateral
- provide expert communications advice and support to the PF2050 team and external stakeholders
- monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of communications activities and make recommendations for improvements.

Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experience**With a proven track record of managing complex relationships across systems you will have success in previous roles with stakeholders to influence programme delivery.

What you will bring to the role:

  • At least five years of experience in communications, public relations, or marketing.
  • A proven track record of developing and implementing successful and nuanced communications strategies.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor messaging to different audiences.
  • Strong relationship building and stakeholder management skills.
  • Experience in managing multiple projects and deadlines.
  • A passion for conservation and the mission of PF2050.

If you are looking for an exciting and challenging role that will make a real difference to Aotearoa's predator management and eradication, then we encourage you to apply.

Ngā āhuatanga kei a mātou | What's in it for you?
