RNZ's are New Zealand's only non-commercial public multimedia organisation and exist solely to serve the public interest by providing unique, impartial services and content to all New Zealanders.


Part of RNZ's strategy involves continuing to expand our digital content and distribution to connect with a growing and increasingly diverse audience.


In this role you will be responsible for producing, writing, commissioning and publishing content for our website and our social media platforms, helping to develop RNZ's website into the destination of choice for New Zealand sports news, features and information.


In addition, your responsibilities will include:

  • Create and publish explainer and analysis articles as well as other digital content on and social media platforms.
  • Help to grow RNZ's digital coverage.
  • Edit and facilitate the content of RNZ homepage, including crosspromotion of content from all areas including News, Features, RNZ National, and RNZ Pacific.
  • Monitor audience engagement with RNZ content.
  • Help RNZ to maintain its obligations and standards in terms of quality, impartiality, independence and accuracy of all content.

Ōu Pūkenga - About You
To be successful in this role you will ideally have the following attributes:

  • Tertiary journalism qualification or equivalent experience. E.g. some broadcast, reporting and/or subbing experience for a news website or digital media organisation.
  • Demonstrable ability to write exceptional digital content.
  • Experience in still picture, video and audio editing, and experienced in use of graphics and data visualisation tools to enhance storytelling.
  • Experience in breaking news, live blogging, hour by hour story development, analysis and context pieces.
  • Understanding of audience engagement techniques, comment moderation and solicitation of usergenerated content.
  • Sound knowledge of media law, broadcasting standards and editorial judgement.
