Mō te tūranga | About the role


Waikato Regional Council is looking for someone to be the lead advisor to the Council, Executive team and Staff on sustainability and climate change response activities internally and externally.

Some of the key areas of the role include:

  • Ongoing relationship building and coordination of collaborative activities across WRC work programmes and with external stakeholders
  • Support the development of the council's response to central government policy and proposed legislation.
  • Coordinate the ongoing development and delivery of the council's Climate Action Roadmap and implementation plans.
  • Manage the council's corporate GHG emissions inventories, including auditing processes for compliance with ISO and Toit ū Carbon reduce certification.
  • Work in partnership with iwi/M ā ori to progress climate change mitigation and adaptation activities, incorporating matauranga Maori.
  • Effectively engage and communicate with partners and stakeholders to promote and enable the transition to a climate resilient, low emissions economy.
  • Develop strong networks in the climate and sustainability sectors.

Mō te tangata | About you

  • Minimum of five years in a sustainabilityfocussed role
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders
  • Strong project management skills including ability to drive multiple endtoend projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent written communication and oral presentation skills.
  • Ability to facilitate change
  • Strategic and tactical thinking skills
  • Political awareness and skill in dealing with potentially contentious issues

Mō ngā pūkenga | Qualifications and experience

  • Degree qualification in a relevant discipline
  • A postgraduate qualification in a related discipline is desirable.
  • Success in a midlevel role in a multidisciplinary organisation with demonstrable achievements.
  • Proven ability to influence / persuade and guide.

You'd be reporting to the Office of the Chief Executive but working across all the council's teams.

The Office of the Chief Executive provides organisational leadership on strategic and cross directorate activities and is responsive to issues and stakeholder needs.
