Hamilton, Waikato, New Zealand New Zealand Government Full time
Senior People Adviser - Central Region

At Ara Poutama there is only one purpose to our work: the wellness and wellbeing of people. This is an opportunity to make a difference for people who are keeping our communities safe every day.
Ngā kawenga | About the role
The Department of Corrections is Aotearoa's largest government department with 10,000 employees. The portfolio for this role covers Springhill Correctional Facility and Central Regional Office based in Hamilton.

Currently the role is heavily ER based but we're on a mission to move towards more of a business partnering approach and are always seeking opportunities for proactive partnering across all people related topics.

You will be partnering with key leaders in our organisation to support site plans by providing a people lens across their strategies and advising on and delivering people initiatives to achieve success.

The position is in a team with four other Senior People Advisors and a Senior ER Specialist supporting the Central Region.

All our People Services team members have been in their role for less than a year.

This means that we are engaged, passionate and enthusiastic to make a difference in our region and we aren't too scared to try new things.

You'll be part of a very supportive team who are unified in our direction and have the support and backing from the regional leadership team.

We are a friendly and inclusive team that support each other and love to collaborate and share ideas and knowledge.

Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experience

We're looking for a HR generalist with solid ER experience who can build strong relationships, has honed their ability to positively influence key stakeholders and understands what good business partnering looks like.

You would have either had experience as a HR Business Partner or Senior People Advisor or be ready to step up from a People Advisor role.

You will be a person who:

  • proactively looks for ways to influence and make change happen
- builds trust and rapport
- enjoys a challenge
- is reliable and responsive to stakeholders

Flexibility for some travel may be required and a full, clean driver's licence is essential.
Utu ā-tau | Salary
The salary band for this role is between $91,953 to $129,816. Appointment and remuneration will reflect skills and experience relevant to the role.
