To be successful in these roles you need to have exceptional communication skills, an understanding of the Machinery of Government, a sophisticated risk radar and the ability to be resilient and work as part of a team.

As an Advisor, Ministerial Correspondence, you will be responsible for providing timely, comprehensive and tailored Ministerial services, including the release of information to Ministers and Parliament, and responses to parliamentary, customer, and public requests for information.

This includes managing, processing, and drafting responses to requests for information, drafting responses to Ministerial correspondence and Written Parliamentary Questions, and working with relevant Minister's offices to proactively release Cabinet material.

You will work collaboratively with employees across the Ministry to ensure that responses meet statutory requirements, align to publicly available information, and are issued within relevant timeframes.

You will also work with other members of the team to identify and manage the response to complex and sensitive communications requests.

You will undertake regular reporting, have a continuous improvement focus and be involved with implementing new processes regarding official correspondence systems/databases, reports, and records.

You will ensure that requests are being assessed and logged within timeliness standards and that logging in the database is accurate.

You will provide regular updates and reports to stakeholders on correspondence volumes, timeliness, and feedback on quality.
This will be a busy and challenging role, so will require someone who is flexible, calm and can multi-task.

This position will report to the Team Leader in the Ministerial Relations and Services team, which is part of the Governance and Assurance team, in the Strategy, Governance and Finance Group at the Ministry of Justice.

The Ministerial Relations and Services team oversees and drafts responses to official correspondence, including Official Information Act and Privacy Act requests, Ministerial correspondence, Parliamentary questions and other pieces of correspondence for the Ministry.

Our team primarily works from the Justice Centre in Thorndon, Wellington. Our National Office team role models flexible working and working from home arrangements.

Utu ā-tau/Salary

Salary Range:

The remuneration band for this role is $66,518 to $93,908, effective 1 June 2023 the remuneration band for this role will be $70,518 to $97,90- the appointing salary will be based on skills and experience.
