We have a new opening in the team for an Information Specialist You will be instrumental in supporting key enterprise business research requirements within a team who are passionate about the work they do for Inland Revenue (IR).

This role sits within the Library and Research Service team which is part of a wider shared-services Information Governance and Sharing teams.

This is a great opportunity to grow your information research skills and collaborate across IR, providing information and knowledge services to support informed, quality decision-making.

Mō te tūnga - About the role

In this varied role you will:

  • answer research and document queries from people by interrogating library databases and collections
- propose improvements to the tools and services used by the Library
- undertake training in library systems and assist in the ongoing design and implementation of business engagement activities on behalf of the Library
- support the broader Information Management business.

Mōu - About you
To be successful in this position you will ideally possess the following attributes:

  • A good understanding of library procedures, including for interloans, serials management and cataloguing, along with experience and/or knowledge of working with and implementing digital library services and materials
  • Confidence in providing advice to people across various levels of the organisation
  • An understanding of managing information well, analysing and presenting complex information in an easy to understand concise and meaningful way
  • Experience with searching strategies and sourcing information on behalf of clients
  • Ability to change tack and work with the team to manage the pipeline of customer requests
  • Strong communication, collaboration and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience in legal research is desirable

Library and Research Services is part of the wider Enterprise Information and Knowledge group ensuring Inland Revenue gets maximum value from its information and knowledge resources.


Information Governance and Sharing consists of three teams:

  • Information Sharing
  • Library and Research Services
  • Information Governance
The Information Specialist - Library role sits within the Library and Research Services team.

This is a small team responsible for providing an information research service to all IR staff upon request, and for managing an extensive collection of curated library resources both print and electronic.
