Wellington, Wellington, New Zealand New Zealand Government Full time
Te Tari Arotake Mātauranga | Education Review Office
The role

The Director Methodology & Professional Practice (MPP) role is a leadership position reporting to the Chief Review Officer/Chief Executive in the Education Review Office (ERO).

The MPP works across ERO to develop the methodology our Evaluation Partners and Review Officers use to evaluate English-medium schools and early childhood education and to develop professional practice and develop the capability of our people.

It is a key role in enabling ERO to deliver against expectation of being an independent voice in the New Zealand education system.

Through the delivery of the work programme, the Director provides assurance to the Chief Review Office/Chief Executive, and the rest of the Executive Leadership Team, that the methodologies used enable the production of high quality and useful evaluation reports for New Zealanders.

At the same time, you also ensure ERO continues to maintain and improve the capability and capacity needs to deliver against expectations in the education system and as a public service agency.

You will not only bring a passion for leadership and people development, you will also utilise your experience to help maximise ERO's capability, capacity, and impact in our work through:

  • Building and maintaining effective working relationships across, and at all levels of, the organisation
  • Making use of the information gathered from across ERO to maintain a coherent and strategic work programme
  • Facilitating development frameworks and opportunities of working and ensuring there is systematic excellence in the quality of work
  • Working closely with Review and Improvement Services and stewarding our methodologies so that we are engaged in our work that stays relevant and impactful
  • Ensuring ERO is investigating and evaluating ways that make a difference for our tamariki
  • Overseeing ERO's international work programme and contribute to our role as a development partner in the Pacific.
About ERO

ERO is accountable for evaluating and reporting on the pre-tertiary education and care of students in schools and early childhood services.

Its driving force is a belief that a quality education is the right of every child and young person in Aotearoa New Zealand on their educational pathway, from early childhood learning until they leave school.

ERO lives by its Whakataukī:
Ko te Tamaiti te Pūtake o te Kaupapa, The Child — the Heart of the Matter.

Its reports are used by parents, teachers, early childhood education managers, school principals and trustees, and by government policy makers.

Applications close 4.00pm Monday 13th March 2023
