The Director Business Services (DBS) leads the directorate that provides a wide range of business services to Defence Digital Group, wider NZDF and other government agencies.

The primary focus is to deliver value in key functional areas:
analytics and insights, vendor relations, and digital risk assurance.

Key responsibilities:

  • Lead and communicate a clear sense of purpose for the Business Services Directorate, helping to shape and define the future and ensuring that the activities of the directorate are aligned to Defence Digital's and the NZDF's strategic objectives.
  • Embody digital leadership as a member of Defence Digital Group's leadership team, and other NZDF governance committees as required.
  • Build and maintain key relationships at senior and executive levels across Defence.
  • Contribute to the longterm viability of the NZDF's digital environment by developing and managing sustainable financial, risk, and commercial practices.
  • Foster relationships with other groups within Defence, other Government Agencies, partner with Defence Forces and industry partners with the aim of enhancing the provision of Defence Digital Group support to the Defence Force's operations.
  • Develop, monitor and report on key performance indicators for Defence Digital Group.
  • Developing and managing the Group's multiyear operational budget.
  • Leading, developing and managing the Business Services Team through your direct reports.

Your exposure and experience in a senior level management role with the ability to influence people at all levels is fine-tuned.

You will have a collaborative leadership style and confidently articulate your vision, achieving results across a number of key disciplines.

Your strong financial acumen, solution focused mind-set and commercial relationship management skills will be pivotal to your success in this role.


Additional skills and experience:

  • Ability to make evidencebased decisions to support key functions and reports.
  • Development of capability and service delivery.
  • Exceptional commercial and strategic relationship management.
  • Strong business management background with knowledge of machinery of government (advantageous).
  • Application of financial and management accounting principles to support business functions.
  • Risk management/assurance, business analysis and commercial relationship (including procurement) experience within the digital environment (highly desirable).
  • Confidence in use of change management and business improvement processes/methodologies.
  • Collaborative and strategic focus for team development and excellence.
