About the Role

The Deputy Chief Executive (DCE) Commissioning, Design and Delivery is responsible for both commissioning and directly delivering a range of supports to Tāngata Whaikaha Māori, disabled people and their whanau.

This is an exciting role to lead new innovative approaches to commissioning and designing of policies and processes in partnership to support the way disabled people and Tāngata Whaikaha Māori wish to live their lives.

As a senior member of the Whaikaha leadership team, the DCE Commissioning, Design and Delivery has a shared responsibility and focus to develop and drive the Ministry's strategy, to ensure that the different parts of the Ministry work effectively together, comply with all relevant legislation and regulations, and to contribute to the Ministry's achievement of high levels of overall performance.

They will need to work closely with the Chief Executive and in partnership with disabled people, Tāngata Whaikaha Māori, and their families to work to transform the disability system.

About You

We are looking for a leader who has an extensive public sector leadership background, and a proven and successful record of large-scale operational service delivery in the social sector.

They will likely bring sound knowledge of the Government's disability direction and policy priorities, along with extensive technical and professional experience and knowledge of disability.

To undertake this role successfully the DCE Commissioning, Design and Delivery will be a disabled person, have lived experience of disability through whānau or be able to establish credibility and trust with the disability community, as well as having empathy and an understanding of the unique and diverse experiences of disabled people.

Whaikaha, the Ministry of Disabled People is underpinned by Aotearoa New Zealand's commitments under Te Tiriti o Waitangi, the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD) along with the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP).

In addition, the vision and principles of Enabling Good Lives (EGL) are essential to how the Ministry does its mahi.

Whaikaha is working in a tripartite approach with disabled people and Tāngata Whaikaha Māori so that their experiences can inform changes to the policies and practices which govern the disability sector and uphold the EGL vision and principles.
