We have a unique opportunity for a Deputy Chief Executive, Māori Crown Relations, to join the Ministry to help drive and deliver Māori-iwi led housing outcomes.

It's critical that we partner with Māori to support and enable whānau Māori to realise their housing aspirations, so we are looking for an experienced senior leader who has a track record of building and sustaining relationships with others, and who can cut-through system-level issues and challenges.

As a member of the senior leadership team, and reporting directly to the Chief Executive, you will contribute to the collective leadership of the Ministry. In addition to offering strategic guidance and advice on the Māori-Crown relationship as it relates to housing, you will also lead the Crown's response to the Wai 2750 Kaupapa Inquiry into Housing Policy and Services (Wai 2750), and lead work to build the Ministry's capability to engage with Māori and be Treaty-anchored in our work.

The Ministry of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) | Te Tūāpapa Kura Kāinga leads the housing and urban development work programme in Aotearoa. It is responsible for strategy, policy, funding, monitoring, regulation of New Zealand's housing and urban development system.

The Government Policy Statement on Housing and Urban Development and MAIHI Ka Ora set the direction for the system. HUD's role is to ensure all parts of the housing and urban development system are working well and that housing outcomes are being realised.

We are looking for a highly credible and experienced senior leader, who demonstrates impact through their work. It's critical for our Kaupapa that you have the respect of, and a reputation for working proactively with Iwi and Māori, stakeholders, and other Government agencies, to improve outcomes for Māori.

With significant experience leading at the political interface, you will know how to manage and cut-through system-level issues and challenges, and you will be a sounding board for others to do the same.

You will also have depth of expertise in the Māori-Crown relationship, including experience leading work to build organisational capability to meet commitments under Te Tiriti o Waitangi and the Public Service Act 2020.

You will create strong teams by leading with authenticity and influence, and bring experience in successfully leading change, building capability and capacity, and shifting organisational performance.

This is a Wellington-based position.
