This new role represents an opportunity for a senior regulatory officer to join our team to deliver compliance, monitoring and enforcement (CME) functions relating to rural based activities, under the Resource Management Act 1991 and a range of environmental regulation.

**Mō te tūranga | About the role**

In conjunction with the Team Leader - Rural Compliance, you will help develop and implement a range of Compliance Strategies related to the Resource Management (National Environmental Standards for Freshwater) Regulations 2020 (NES-F) and permitted activities related to dairy effluent management in the Waikato region.

You will provide support to a range of activities including compliance monitoring & enforcement (CME) functions, principally in respect of permitted activities related to dairy effluent management and regulations, resource consents, audits, complaint response, advice & information.

There is a leadership component to the role in support of the Team Leader - Rural Compliance, and you will provide technical and best practice expertise to the wider Resource Use group related to rural compliance monitoring functions.

The role has a significant regulatory component to it, so you must be comfortable undertaking the functions of an enforcement officer pursuant to the Resource Management Act 1991.

**Mō te tangata | About you**

The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills, have a background in regulatory and primary sector fields and ideally previous experience in a senior compliance monitoring role.

No less than 10 years post graduate experience in local government, environmental management, or regulatory roles.

A practical understanding of dairy farming practices, forestry harvesting operations or other rural based activities would be an advantage.

**Mō ngā pūkenga | Qualifications and experience**

A relevant tertiary qualification in Compliance (such as law enforcement), Science, Forestry Science/Operations, Agriculture and or Resource Management, and;
Applied experience in working with the Resource Management Act, Waikato Regional Plan & NES-F, and a sound knowledge and experience in regulatory (CME) operations, including an understanding of all facets of the enforcement process.

You will also have:

- Excellent written & verbal communication skills.
- Proven ability to build positive relationships and the ability to work with a wide range of people to achieve positive outcomes.
- Good organisational skills including time management, prioritising and forward planning, with an eye for detail.
- Ability to mentor and provide training to new and developing staff.
- Ability to provide leadership within the Rural Compliance Team in the absence of the Team Leader.

The Rural Compliance Team is part of the Regional Compliance Section and work closely with the Incident Response, Maritime Safety and Investigations teams.

You will have the support of three Senior Rural Compliance Officers and that of the Team Leader - Rural Compliance.
