The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) provides national leadership to New Zealand's distributed emergency management system.

Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About this role
NEMA's Policy Unit is responsible for navigating and influencing the government policy interface that enables all NEMA's roles.

The Policy Unit is responsible for providing emergency management related policy advice to government, the CDEM sector, and the wider emergency management and national security systems.

The Policy Unit also supports NEMA, its Executive Leadership Team, Regional Emergency Management Advisors, operational business units and CDEM Groups.

Demonstrating their organisational skills and knowledge of the machinery of government, the Coordinator, Policy, will be responsible for ensuring the smooth execution of policy analysis and advice provision to NEMA and the Minister for Emergency Management.

As part of working within NEMA, there may be a requirement to respond to emergency activations in the event of a national emergency response.

This may involve responding to events outside of normal working hours if an emergency response of national significance occurs.

  • Experience administering products and processes associated with government policy, machinery of government, and the provision of Ministerial advice
  • Experience supporting senior managers and providing support to projects and programmes of work.
  • Capability in project scheduling and tracking
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, can deal appropriately with a wide range of staff and stakeholders
  • Excellent secretariat, administration, organisational and process management skills
