Mō tēnei tūranga | About this role

We are looking for a capable and committed Senior Policy Analyst to join our Schools Policy group to lead the development of policy in some high profile, new and challenging areas.

The Governance, Legislation and Accountability team leads and coordinates all Bills that go through the House as well as leading policy work as it relates to governance and accountability arrangements, particularly within the schooling system.

The team has a key role in working with other teams across Te Pou Kaupapahere (policy group) and elsewhere in the Ministry on policy and legislative proposals relating to early learning, schooling and tertiary.

Current parts of the work programme include policy work related to Māori Education in rumaki reo rua, a first principles review of certain legislative provisions and growing the Ministry's approach to regulatory stewardship.

The team is committed to policy advice that is orientated towards more equitable outcomes in the schooling and broader education system.

Mātau rōpū ake | About our ministry, group, and team

At Te Tāhuhu o te Mātauranga, we work to provide services and support nationally, regionally and locally to the education sector, and in some cases, directly to ākonga and whanau.

To better deliver on this, we are currently undergoing an organisational design change. The transition phase to improve the way we deliver our purpose will be complete in 2023.

Te Pou Kaupapahere is the Ministry's policy group with a whole-of-system focus covering early learning, compulsory schooling, and tertiary. This includes Māori medium, Kaupapa Māori, Pacific and Learning Support.

We provide advice to enable an education system which contributes to the skills and knowledge needed by people for social, cultural, economic and environmental wellbeing.

We develop policy about vocational skills, access pathways, international education, and student financial support. We also manage the Ministry's international engagements and cooperation agreements.
