About the Team:

The Regulatory Policy Design team is responsible for the overall regulatory policy framework and its conceptual underpinnings

This includes:

  • Providing policy analysis and advice
  • Advising on legislation and the design of regulatory instruments including maritime and marine protection rules
  • Leading and managing the development and delivery of the annual regulatory design programme
  • Leading coordination with the International Engagement and Coordination team to ensure that international developments are well integrated into the policy programme

What you'll do:


The Senior Advisor Regulatory Policy Design is responsible for providing quality insights and advice on matters relating to regulatory policy design while supporting the Manager in relation to the effective delivery of results relating to regulatory policy design.

You'll provide rigorous high-quality advice, take responsibility for producing outputs and meeting deliverables for specific work programmes and be responsible for the development and design of specific policy projects.

You'll establish and maintain relationships between Maritime NZ and other Government agencies to promote an integrated and aligned approach to policy and regulatory development in the transport, maritime and environmental sectors participate in processes to develop a comprehensive understanding of the maritime sector, its issues and concerns.


What we're looking for:

  • Proven experience and knowledge of Regulatory Policy Design
  • Significant previous experience in an advisory or analyst role within central government to a senior level
  • Strong analytical abilities, including the ability to interpret data and handle complex and technical material
  • Experience contributing and taking the lead in projects and programmes of work involving multiple objectives and diverse stakeholders in a fast changing environment
  • Successful track record as a proactive and innovative thinker who is willing to involve others to look at problems from different perspectives and develop fresh solutions
  • Aptitude for fostering positive working relationships with people across all levels of an organisation; collaborative working style with a strong user focus
