Wellington, Wellington, New Zealand New Zealand Government Full time

The Office of the Auditor-General | Te Mana Arotake(the Office) aims to improve trust and confidence in the public sector.

The Auditor-General is the statutory auditor of all public organisations, playing a major part in ensuring that New Zealand's public sector remains one of the most trusted in the world.

No other organisation, public or private, has the overview of the whole public sector that the Office of the Auditor-General has.

We're looking for a Director, Strategic Communications and Impact to join our team.

You'll be leading the development, implementation, and ongoing management of an Office-wide communications and engagement strategy, as well as supporting plans to increase the reach and positive impact of the Office's work.

This is an important leadership role where you'll shape a new direction for how we communicate our work and make a difference for New Zealanders.

As the Director, Strategic Communications and Impact, you'll:

  • lead the implementation of a revised communications and engagement strategy for the Office;
- provide high-quality strategic communications advice on matters relating to positioning, brand, media and social media, key relationships, and strategic communications for the Office (including for our in-house audit provider, Audit New Zealand);
- oversee the Office's media engagement;
- lead the design and implementation of a new business partner approach for strategic communications and engagement advice and support; and
- provide leadership, direction, coaching, professional development, and oversight of the Strategic Communications and Impact team.

For this position, we're looking for someone with:

  • exceptional communication skills and demonstrated credibility to influence internally and externally, communicating concisely and clearly in all mediums and adapting tone to meet the needs of the audience;
- excellent strategic and critical thinking skills, with the ability to think strategically and see the big picture, define problems clearly, identify the information necessary to analyse issues, and give thorough, objective, and sound guidance and advice;
- excellent people management skills, with proven success in leadership, direction, coaching, and driving professional development; and
- proven experience in leading, developing, and implementing internal strategies.

A tertiary qualification, ideally with a focus on strategy, public policy/administration, and communications, is desirable.
We offer our staff

  • Learning and development opportunities.
  • Supportive, flexible working.
  • Health and wellbeing benefits.
  • A unique operating environment with Parliament.
