Christchurch, Canterbury, New Zealand Transpower Full time
Work with providers to optimise delivery of the building and grounds workplans

  • Enjoy a mix of Transpower office and interesting regional sitebased work
  • Drive performance, safety, continuous improvement, quality, and sustainability
  • Bring your outstanding communication and influencing skills to the National Grid. Enjoy dynamic mahi and ongoing learning in an awesome team_

Transpower is a State-Owned Enterprise that owns and operates the National Grid - the transmission network that carries electricity around the country.

Our $5b of critical assets includes 175 substations, depots, 3 warehouses, over ~12,000km of high voltage transmission lines, ~60km of underground and submarine cable, and over 40,000 supporting towers and poles.

The nature of our work is challenging which is why we attract curious, thoughtful, and hardworking people who work collaboratively to deliver the change necessary to enable Aotearoa's energy future.

We have a significant pipeline of work to deliver over the next 10+ years and there won't be a dull moment.

About the team
Our Grid Delivery division is accountable for the delivery of all work across New Zealand's transmission network. This includes project and maintenance work, delivered in conjunction with our service provider organisations. Transpower delivers approximately $400M capex and $100M in opex per annum.

We are the custodians of the grid and the service that is delivered to our customers.

We work in a large team with our service providers, Service Delivery team, and Transpower specialists to ensure asset health, optimised work delivery, and continuous improvement in the delivery and maintenance of the grid.

This is always with safety, health, and sound business acuity at the forefront of providing transmission services for New Zealand, with mínimal network interruption.

To do this, our Service Delivery Managers and Service Performance Managers work collaboratively, specifically focused on the delivery of the work programme in the region, and any event response required to achieve our service level goals and minimise (while optimising) outages on the grid.

About the opportunity

Due to new facilities management contracts starting in July, three new regional Service Delivery Manager roles are available regionally (based in our Ōtara Auckland, Palmerston North, and Christchurch offices).

Working closely with our skilled service provider team, works schedulers, and project managers, you'll ensure work is completed safely, to plan, and to agreed standards.

This isn't your usual facilities management portfolio - our facilities include substations, depots, and warehouses

Through building strong relationships that encourage best practice in a technically challenging work environment, you'll ensure human error and equipment-related faults are minimised and resolved quickly, without harm, and with mínimal service interruption to our customers.

Working alongside Grid Investigations and Project teams, you will be involved in the following exciting projects/potential projects:

  • Providing operational input into the development of facilities Business Cases
  • Supporting capital project upgrades and asset replacements (Grid Enhancements)
  • Working closely with Project Managers as we implement a wide range of projects, including climate change resilience projects and substantial upgrades to our grid infrastructure
  • Supporting opportunities to be more sustainable through supply chain optimisation
As well as ensuring the delivery of the facilities contract, you'll have the opportunity to dive into and provide leadership for some other smaller Specialist Services Contracts (metering, drones for example) which will allow you to get to know the electrical side of the business

Ultimately, you'll be working to have a positive impact on the community by keeping the lights on and enabling a more sustainable energy future

About you
You're practically minded, with well-developed relationship management and indirect leadership skills, and a performance and continuous improvement orientation.

A full clean drivers' licence and the ability to travel (usually well planned and manageable around family commitments) will enable you to visit sites within your regional area.

Previous roles will have honed your forward-thinking skills, and you will investigate and solve problems at pace, both in the office and on site.

Known for your tech savvy and productive collaboration and influencing skills, you love to enable quick wins and have the tenacity and drive to ensure sustained continuous improvement.

Your CV and cover letter will clearly articulate:

  • Good understanding of operational performance management, ideally involving facilities maintenance
  • Some understanding/appreciation of, or exposure to, the electricity sector
  • Welldeveloped verbal and written communication skills, and experience of electronic maintenance management systems e.g., Maximo or similar
