An exciting opportunity has become available for an Operations Planner, Biodiversity within the Department of Conservation Te Papa Atawhai Hamilton Office.

This is a permanent, full-time role, with the option of flexible working arrangements.

We are looking for a highly motivated and suitably qualified individual with experience in operations strategy and planning to take up this dynamic position.


He angitūtanga | About the role


As our next Operations Planner, Biodiversity, you will be responsible for combining the complex work of biodiversity monitoring and management carried out by our Biodiversity Rangers, with systematic operations planning.

You will liaise with advisors and district leadership teams to support the capture and understanding of local priorities and other context including work commitments from Treaty of Waitangi settlements.


In this role you will:
- initiate regional strategic discussions and provide a framework to develop the programme of work for our biodiversity rangers.
- support the Hauraki-Waikato
  • Taranaki Regional Operations teams to build their biodiversity annual business plans.
- ensure effective measurement of regional operational performance through reporting.
- have the opportunity to engage with Councils on regional biodiversity priorities.
- build operational discipline and engagement capability in the Hauraki-Waikato
  • Taranaki Regional Operations teams.

He kōrero mōu | What we are looking for


The ideal applicant will have sound knowledge of business planning and reporting concepts and processes, and have excellent interpersonal, communication, engagement, and relationship management skills.


You will be competent at prioritising, financial resourcing (knowledge of capital processes would be beneficial) and finding improved ways to use resources.

Some knowledge of biodiversity field operations and standards will be highly advantageous. Some travel will be required and therefore the successful applicant must have a full New Zealand driver licence.
