The Senior Financial Advisor supports the Finance Performance Reporting team to deliver a high standard of performance reporting across portfolios and to respective NZDF Governance Committees and Boards.


You will be required to:

  • Engage with internal stakeholders to understand user needs;
  • Provide quality, accurate and timely financial performance reports to various stakeholders and Governance Boards, including variance analysis that provides financial analytical insight on how resource allocation is enabling enhanced military capability;
  • Assist in providing direction, leadership and oversight in managing the budget and reforecasting processes, including assisting with the ownership of the planning for all financial activities/processes that require wider finance team support;
  • Prepare, lead and/or assist in managing the completion of external reporting requests; and
  • Prepare and review responses to parliamentary questions and other official information requests.
Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and Experience

We are looking for someone with strong technical skills and a general understanding of management accounting and financial management principles and practices.

You will have highly developed analytical skills and a continuous improvement mind set.

Ideally, you will have:

  • Expertise in designing financial reports for decision makers, managing complex budget processes and answering queries from external agencies;
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail;
  • The ability to communicate technical information effectively to nonexpert audiences;
  • Experience with a budget reporting tool such as SAP BI or IBM Analytics (TM1);
  • Experience with a major ERP package, preferably SAP;
  • High level computer literacy skills including intermediate level expertise in the MS Office Suite, particularly MS Excel; and
  • A tertiary qualification in accounting, finance or other relevant area.
