Regulatory Operations Manager

Wellington, Wellington, New Zealand Jacksonstone & Partners Full time
Be part of a new Crown entity.

  • Lead a regulatory function.
  • Sectorfacing role.
Established in 2021 Taumata Arowai is the new water regulator for Aotearoa/New Zealand. Its remit is about ensuring all communities have access to safe and reliable drinking water every day.

The organization also has an oversight role in relation to the environmental performance of drinking water, wastewater and stormwater networks.

Taumata Arowai recognizes the need to develop strong relationships and to work collaboratively across the sector.

It will design, build and act from a te ao Māori perspective and will work with iwi and Māori, local and central government, and the wider water sector.

The Regulatory Operations Manager will focus on the effective delivery of regulatory activities.

The appointee will provide and contribute to strategic regulatory leadership and be responsible for a regulatory delivery team that is based in several locations.

Because this is a sector-facing role, the ability to build sound relationships with the sector and stakeholders and to front media enquiries is crucial to the role's success.

You must have well-developed people management skills and strong regulatory experience, ideally in infrastructure. You will need to be resilient and be able to work in a complex and ambiguous environment. Experience working in a Crown entity would be helpful as would strong te ao Māori appreciation and understanding.

This is a rare opportunity to join a growing organisation and to contribute in a positive way to better outcomes for New Zealand.
