At the highest level, what we do at Te Tai Ōhanga - The Treasury is pretty simple. We're creating a better future for New Zealand and everyone who calls our amazing country home.
We're the Government's economic and financial advisor, working hard to raise the standard of living for everyone in Aotearoa, now and in the future.
Kōrero mō te tūranga | About the RoleThe Regulatory Strategy Team has an ambitious and varied work programme, with strategy, policy and operational responsibilities.
As part of the Economic Strategy Directorate, we have a key role to play in thinking about the role of regulation in lifting living standards.
We have two major cross-system leadership roles:
- Leading thinking on Regulatory System Stewardship (looking after our regulatory systems to ensure they remain fit for purpose over the long term) in order to improve regulatory performance and reduce failures, and;
- Overseeing and running the Regulatory Impact Analysis (RIA) system, which aims to lift the quality of regulatory reform or new regulation so that it achieves its desired outcomes.
In this Analyst role you would:
- Provide advice to agencies on how to meet Cabinet's RIA requirements;
- Identify and lead the delivery of improvements to the RIA system, including through engagement across the public sector;
- Provide advice to the responsible Minister on how to improve the way in which regulations are made, maintained and reviewed; and
- Contribute to projects aimed at supporting the effective and resilient operation of all parts of a regulatory system, from policy teams to frontline regulatory functions.
- Strong analytical skills and a problemsolving mindset;
- Effective interpersonal and relationship management skills, enabling you to work constructively in a team environment and across the public sector;
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; and
- An understanding of the policy process and the machinery of government.
The Regulatory Strategy team offers exposure to strategy, policy and operational work - all within the same team.
The work will stimulate and challenge you, helping you learn, grow, and build valuable experiences and skills.
We know it's a big job and that's why we take such good care of our Treasury whanau.
Flexible work arrangements and five weeks annual leave, along with a range of other health and wellbeing initiatives, will help you enjoy a positive work/life balance.
The wharenui, at the heart of our workplace, embodies our commitment to diversity and making this an inclusive place that will welcome the unique experiences and perspectives you bring to our collaborative culture.
