Te Puni Kōkiri | Ministry of Māori Development


Te Puni Kōkiri, the Ministry of Māori Development is the principal policy advisor to the Government on Māori wellbeing and development supports and works in partnership with the Government to design and deliver policies, as well as innovative targeted investment initiatives that have a significant and positive impact on Māori.

About our Policy Partnerships Puni
The Policy Partnerships Puni works at the forefront of policy development within Te Puni Kōkiri and:

  • leads the public sector to understand and prioritise Māori issues, needs and opportunities which impact on wellbeing and development;
- provides credible, evidence-based advice that is anchored in the cultural context of te ao Māori;
- designs, applies and advises on te ao Māori and Te Tiriti-based frameworks for policy, linking the voice of whānau Māori into policy proposals and solution design.

  • The appointment range for this role is $68kYou will be either a policy analyst developing your skills in a relevant area, or a recent graduate with a public policy related qualification.

- are an excellent communicator and influencer and are energised from working with others to develop solutions;
- have an understanding of te ao Māori and the machinery of government and Te Tiriti;
- know how to engage authentically with Māori from the wider community;
- value working in an environment which supports tikanga and reo as part of your everyday.

Our regional connections with Māori communities will enrich your understanding of the issues and aspirations of Māori whānau, hapū, iwi, businesses and help you build impact.

Te Puni Kōkiri offers the whānau feeling of a small agency, prioritises your whānau, wellbeing and development. We provide in-house te reo Māori training, Toastmasters, and opportunities to join sports teams. We are committed to enabling all kaimahi to deepen their understanding of reo and tikanga Māori.
