If living amongst amazing beaches, forests, food and activities excite you, join Northland Inc as our Head of Destination and lead the sustainable growth of Taitokerau Northland's tourism sector managing our Regional Tourism Office unit. This strategic leadership role offers an exciting opportunity to collaborate with iwi, industry operators, councils, and government partners to position Northland as New Zealand's truly authentic travel destination - where New Zealand's origin stories start.
About the Role:
As Head of Destination, you will develop and execute strategies to increase visitor numbers, diversify experiences, build products, and enhance brand recognition. You'll lead a small, talented team and work closely with key stakeholders to deliver measurable growth and regional dispersal, all guided by a strong emphasis on partnership and kaupapa Māori principles.
Key Outcomes:
- Develop a clear strategy to increase visitor numbers year-round
- Implement impactful marketing campaigns and support high-value events
- Co-create market-ready experiences and secure event funding
- Expand distribution channels via trade partnerships and into international markets
- Operationalize the Destination Management Plan with local partners
- Deliver measurable community and sustainable environmental benefits
What We're Looking For:
- 10+ years in tourism operations, destination marketing, and/or destination strategy; 5+ years in leadership roles
- Proven success in partnerships, campaigns, and ROI-focused events
- Experience in product development with Māori communities and operators
- Strong strategic planning, stakeholder engagement, and team management skills
- Knowledge of Northland and Māori tourism is advantageous
- Tertiary qualification in marketing, tourism, or business
