Ōmataroa Rangitaiki No2 Trust (the Trust) and its commercial subsidiary, OMR2 Holdings Limited (OMR2), represent the collective aspirations of Ngāti Awa whānau with whakapapa to the Ōmataroa Rangitaiki No2 Trust whenua. The Trust was founded on the legacy of its tīpuna, who worked tirelessly to protect and retain this land so it could continue to sustain and provide for future generations. Today, the Trust oversees a growing portfolio of forestry, environmental, and commercial assets, upholding tikanga Māori, strengthening cultural identity, and ensuring the sustainable management of its lands and resources for the enduring benefit of its beneficiaries and shareholders both now and in the future.

The Trust seeks to balance charitable and cultural responsibilities with commercial growth through prudent management of its forestry, environmental, and investment assets. The Group's vision is to create intergenerational prosperity and beneficiaries and shareholders wellbeing, while honouring the mana of the whenua and the legacy of its people.

Mō te tūranga | About the Role

The Tumuaki will lead the Group with both commercial acumen and cultural integrity, ensuring their actions reflect the Trust's values, uphold its charitable purpose, and deliver enduring prosperity for the shareholders of Ōmataroa.

This is a strategic and operational leadership role that requires an understanding of Te Ao Māori, modern governance and business practice and how they intertwine toward a sustainable and prosperous future.

Ngā Kawenga Matua | Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver a unified strategic plan aligning charitable goals with commercial ambitions.
  • Uphold te reo me ōna tikanga Māori across all operations.
  • Oversee commercial operations including quarry, forestry, agribusiness, and land management.
  • Ensure strong financial performance and sustainable investment returns.
  • Maintain compliance with trust deeds, legislation, and statutory requirements.
  • Build trusted relationships with iwi, government, community, and commercial partners.
  • Lead a cohesive and culturally grounded team.
  • Promote health and safety across all departments.
  • Represent the Trust with mana and humility at hapū, iwi, regional, and national levels.

Success in this role will be measured by the delivery of strategic and financial outcomes, growth in asset value and charitable impact, and the strength of authentic relationships with stakeholders and beneficiaries. Embedding tikanga Māori into the organisational culture, developing a capable and motivated team, and demonstrating leadership in both commercial excellence and social responsibility will be key indicators of your overall impact.

Essential:

  • Relevant business degree (e.g. Accounting, Law, Māori Development).
  • Proven senior leadership experience in both Māori and commercial settings.
  • An understanding of Te Ao Māori, tikanga, and kaupapa Māori leadership.
  • Strong financial literacy and governance capability.
  • Strategic planning and operational delivery experience.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills.
  • Commitment to integrity, service, and long-term wellbeing of people and whenua.

Desirable:

  • Experience in quarry, forestry, agribusiness, Māori land management, and environmental stewardship.
  • Familiarity with trust and company governance structures.
  • Proficiency in te reo Māori or an active commitment to learning.
