About the RoleWe're seeking a proactive Assistant Project Manager to support the delivery of school property projects, including new builds, refurbishments, and infrastructure upgrades. You'll work closely with internal teams, vendors, suppliers, and school stakeholders to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to Ministry of Education standards.
This role spans two key areas:
- School-led projects
- Ngā Iti Kahurangi (NIK) programme and other Ministry-managed initiatives
- Assist in planning, coordinating, and monitoring multiple school property projects
- Prepare project briefs, budgets, timelines, and documentation aligned with the Ministry's 10-Year Property Plan (10YPP)
- Maintain accurate project files and ensure compliance with building codes and health & safety standards
- Liaise with school representatives, contractors, consultants, and Ministry advisors
- Support procurement processes, including supplier shortlisting and quote evaluation
- Managing and ordering any client free issue supply items
- Contract works insurance
- Running and documenting Pre installation and establishment meetings
- Track project progress, report on milestones, and manage risks
- Conduct quality assurance checks and construction monitoring
- Manage asbestos-related projects including surveys, management plans, and removal processes
- Provide design and scoping services across various building systems (electrical, data, security, roofing, insulation, etc.)
- Assist in improving project workflows and support clients using Torque IP's project management system
- Project Management: PRINCE2 or PMP certification preferred
- Technical Knowledge: Understanding of NZ building standards, construction methods, and safety regulations
- Technology: Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word and Outlook), SharePoint, Teams, Planner, and AI tools like MS Copilot
- Ministry of Education Property: Familiarity with Ministry guidelines, 10YPP, Helios, DQLS standards, and property planning processes
- Ability to interpret architectural plans and review Site Specific Safety Plans (SSSP)
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills
- Work on meaningful projects that impact New Zealand's education infrastructure
