About the role | Mō te tūranga:
Our Christchurch laboratory has an exciting opportunity for an experienced and motivated Section Leader to lead our Specimen Reception team. This is a permanent, full-time role of 80 hours per fortnight. You'll play a key role in ensuring the smooth running of specimen reception operations while providing leadership and support to your team.

In this role, you'll oversee the accurate receipt, sorting, and registration of all incoming specimens, while maintaining high standards of customer service for both clients and internal teams. You'll work closely with your team, embracing a solutions-focused approach and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee daily operations of the Specimen Reception team to ensure smooth and efficient workflow, including receipt, sorting, and registration of specimens.
  • Support and guide the team, providing training, assistance, and fostering a positive, collaborative workplace culture.
  • Maintain high standards of client service while following laboratory protocols and quality standards to ensure sample integrity.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and help implement solutions.
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues and clients regarding specimen queries or issues and assist with related administrative tasks.
  • Participate in the weekend roster as needed.

  • Proven leadership experience, with the ability to supervise, train, and develop staff.
  • Self-motivated, disciplined, and customer-focused, with a commitment to high-quality service.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; works well both independently and in a team.
  • Strong time management, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Professional in appearance and conduct, with solid computer and keyboard skills.
  • Office management skills including invoicing, stocktake and consumable sales are beneficial but not essential.
  • Be available to participate in the weekend roster as required.
