Canterbury Health Laboratories (CHL) is a busy diagnostic facility providing services to in-patients and outpatients at Te Whatu Ora Waitaha within Christchurch. You - ll be working for the largest medical laboratory in the South Island which is also a major secondary/tertiary referral centre with a varied and challenging case load. We have a modern and well-equipped lab including a good range of specialist equipment.

We currently have an opportunity for a permanent, full time Medical Laboratory Scientist to join our Specimen Services Team.

This role will be responsible for supporting the Section Head as well as the team which involves liaising with other laboratories and external organisations, the maintenance and development of your own professional development, the effective and efficient use of laboratory information system to register patients, input data and access results, leading the team with technical and scientific support and take on additional duties as required.
- The role is 40 hours per week with working hours between 0730-2030_.

In this role you will be responsible for:

- Providing a high-quality service to clients
- Continuous Quality Improvement of Specimen Services processes
- Liaising with external and internal clients
- Training staff members
- Providing technical and scientific support
- Troubleshooting

- Computer skills (Microsoft Office, Word, Outlook and Excel)
- Familiarity with laboratory processes and experience in a similar role
- Methodical and practical skills
- Attention to detail and accuracy skills
- Self-motivation and discipline to work independently and a demonstrated ability to work to a high standard unsupervised
- The ability to prioritise and multitask as the situation demands
