Join the team at the Bathhouse, Queenstown's iconic lakeside restaurant. We are on the hunt for a skilled Sous chef to join our team.

As Sous chef, you'll be at the heart of creating an exceptional experience to our guests. You will work alongside our Executive chef, curating and perfecting seasonal & delicious dishes. You will play a key part in daily kitchen operations, staff leadership, food quality, cost control and maintaining exceptional hygiene standards. You'll help keep the kitchen running smoothly, produce consistently excellent dishes, and support the Executive Chef in all aspects of service and preparation.

What You'll Be Doing

Kitchen Operations & Leadership

  • Assist the Executive Chef with staff scheduling and organising daily kitchen workflow
  • Lead and support the kitchen team, maintaining a positive, engaged and productive culture
  • Communicate effectively with both kitchen and front-of-house teams
  • Train and mentor staff on preparation, recipe execution and plating
  • Take charge of the kitchen when required and report any team issues promptly

Culinary Execution

  • Cook consistently to a high standard and follow menu specifications
  • Produce menu items using ingredients sensibly and cost-effectively
  • Assist with menu development, recipe costing and creation of new dishes

Food Safety & Compliance

  • Maintain impeccable personal hygiene and ensure spotless kitchen conditions
  • Uphold and update the Food Safety Programme (FSP)
  • Ensure accurate daily CHOMP records
  • Keep all equipment and work areas safe and operational

Stock & Supplier Management

  • Manage portion control and reduce waste
  • Rotating food Stock & ordering
  • Track, record and replenish inventory
  • Check deliveries and ensure goods match orders
  • Maintain strong supplier relationships
  • Order food items as needed and follow proper rotation procedures

Team & Community

  • Foster positive morale and communication within the team
  • Represent the business positively within the community
What We're Looking For
  • Minimum 3 years' experience in a commercial kitchen
  • Strong cooking skills and the ability to maintain consistent quality
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills
  • Solid knowledge of food safety, hygiene and kitchen systems
  • Ability to stay calm, organised and efficient during busy service periods
What We Offer
