**About the role**
As a Major Projects Director for the Transportation team, you will be accountable for identifying, pursing, bidding and delivering major projects within the Transportation business. In addition, you will maintain and develop relationships with key clients in our capital delivery space and proactively position Stantec to ensure our backlog grows. To achieve this, you will work closely with the Regional Director for the Transportation Business.
At a project level, you will lead a team of technical leads across many disciplines, to deliver large and complex capital projects. The role will work closely with the Project Manager for the delivery, efficiency and quality of all technical outputs, as well as the Design Manager and Technical Leads to coordinate all multi-disciplinary activities and inputs by the technical team, including specialist inputs, to ensure an integrated technical solution. Frequently the Director will fulfil the role of Team Leader, Project Director or Design Manager as project requirements dictate and/or workloads permit.
The Director will provide technical leadership within the Transportation Business Centre to develop and maintain relationships with clients, develop technical competency within the business and ensure overall technical direction and quality of design and delivery work. They will also provide support to the business development team to foster positive relationships with clients to secure transportation design projects, ensure backlog and work with the Transportation Delivery Team to ensure the delivery of projects on time, budget and to the required standard.
**Key Responsibilities include**
- Lead and oversee the technical delivery of complex and/or major projects.
- Take responsibility for integrated project delivery across different disciplines and/or business units.
- Contribute to developing strategic plans for the business service line.
- Work with the business development team to ensure methodologies and technical approaches lead to successful proposals
- Lead, support or review technical proposals.
- Engage with senior members of client organisations and partners to elevate the brand of Stantec.
- Develop and maintain key client relationships across New Zealand and specifically with NZ Transport Agency and Contractor and Consultant delivery partners.
- In consultation with project managers and/or design managers, ensure technical risks of projects are identified.
- Lead the development of frameworks and practices to advance technical excellence and innovation.
- Develop and mentor Design, Delivery and Transport planning teams to identify gaps.
- Promote the exchange of expertise and support wider knowledge communities.
- Foster and embed a culture aligned with the core values to support the strategic intent of the business
**To be successful for this role you'll need**:
To be qualified to Master’s Level in a relevant Engineering Discipline or Chartered through a relevant engineering or technical specialist professional body. You’ll have 15 years minimum relevant experience with significant experience delivering successful projects in a technical leadership capacity.
You’ll need a deep understanding of, and demonstrated expertise in, complex capital project delivery with Business Development capabilities to identify, position and win major capital projects. Your strong client management service and interpersonal skills coupled with your organisational skills will ensure you prioritise work with teams to meet business and project delivery needs.
