**About the company**:
Queenstown Lakes District Council plays a pivotal role in the enhancement and maintenance of the livability and quality of the beautiful environment of the district. The district is experiencing substantial growth in both residential population and international and domestic visitor numbers. On a peak day in 2021, visitor numbers totalled 99,200, the projections estimate these numbers to reach 152,910 on a peak day by 2031. With this type of growth, QLDC is needing to grow their own workforce There are currently 550 employees, along with a number of partner organisation’s that deliver services on behalf of Council.

With over $1.6 billion of capital investment to be made in the next 10 years, it’s an exciting time to join the organisation and be a part of the change.

**About the role**:
You will play a key leadership role as a senior policy advisor, developing resource management policy for the district. The key aspects of this role will be to assist the Policy Manager on leadership within the team for the delivery of strategic planning projects, providing technical planning advice on a range of urban and rural policy planning matters within the district plan review, mentoring of team members, and representing council as a leading planning expert in mediations and hearings.

**About you**:
Our ideal applicant will be a highly motivated, innovative, and achievement-orientated professional. You will need to have a tertiary or post graduate level degree qualification in planning or a related discipline to be successful in this role, along with membership of the New Zealand Planning Institute, or full membership of an equivalent international organisation.
- Strategic thinker
- Ability to lead and mentor
- Proven experience with district plan reviews and/or managing planning policy projects, in a New Zealand local government context
- Extensive experience in both consenting environments and policy planning
