**We’re looking for someone who **
- Is passionate about the Waikato region, is fit, enjoys working outdoors and is happy using a computer too, can work autonomously but follow a set methodology, is familiar with New Zealand farming systems, is confident talking to members of the public, and has an eye for detail. If successful, you will be working with a second student under the guidance of a Soil and Land Scientist primarily on collecting information on catchment-scale riparian condition. This requires making observations of fencing, riparian vegetation, and stream bank stability along reaches of river in selected catchments. _
- Conduct catchment-scale riparian condition surveys in a selected priority catchment (40 - 50 sites) within the Waikato region. This will include:

- Becoming familiar with the survey method and field H&S requirements.
- Organising PPE, data collection equipment, and site files.
- C ontacting landowners for permission to access private properties.
- Undertaking field surveys.
- Collating data collected over summer ready for analysis and reporting.
- Calibrate and deploy temperature loggers, conduct photo surveys, and invertebrate sampling at selected monitoring sites.
- Undertake sediment and nutrient sampling in streams across priority catchments.
- Assist Environmental Monitoring and Science staff with other field or office-based projects as they arise.
- Maintain a high level of commitment to Health and Safety.
- Be a team player, with great communication.

This role is for three months commencing in mid-November.
