**Mō te tangata | About you**
- Previous experience undertaking riparian surveys is desirable but not essential.
- Be passionate about the outdoors, fieldwork-ready, and enjoy exploring the region, with the ability to walk several kilometres each day in all weather conditions.
- Have strong interpersonal skills with a strong customer focus while interacting with farmers and members of the public.
- Demonstrate a meticulous approach for collection of scientific data.
- Be familiar with Microsoft Excel and have a sound understanding of data management processes for handling and analysing large datasets.
- Maintain a high level of commitment to Health and Safety.
- Must have a full New Zealand driver’s licence.

**Mō te tūranga | About the role**
- Based in the Hamilton office.
- This role is for 3 months, starting in early-to-mid November 2025 and ending early-to-mid February 2026.
- The role is predominantly field based, with 3-4 days per week spent in the field.
- Conduct a catchment-scale riparian condition survey in a selected priority catchment (40-50 sites) within the Waikato region. This will include:

- Becoming familiar with the survey method and field H&S requirements.
- Organising PPE, data collection equipment, and site files.
- Contacting landowners for permission to access private properties.
- Undertaking field surveys.
- Collating data collected over the summer ready for analysis and reporting.
- Undertake sediment and nutrient sampling in streams across priority catchments.
- Deploy temperature loggers and retrieve temperature data from established monitoring sites.
- Utilise GIS software to identify and map erosion-prone areas within a priority catchment.
- Assist Environmental Monitoring and Science staff with other field or office-based projects as they arise.
