Waikato Regional Council are looking for a Student Consent Monitoring Officer to support their consent monitoring teams. As a Student Consent Monitoring Officer, you will be responsible for monitoring and managing a broad range of consented activities within the Waikato Region including:

- Stormwater
- Earthworks
- Wastewater
- Coastal activities
- Water abstractions
- Works in lakes and streambeds

As a Student Consent Monitoring Officer with Waikato Regional Council, you will be conducting site inspections, determining potential environmental effects, and reporting on outcomes. This will make for a really interesting and varied summer, and a great opportunity for you to get out there and make a difference.

The ideal person will be able to work well in a team, have good written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to quickly build relationships with resource consent holders. An understanding of the issues affecting the Waikato Region and the role that regulation plays in protecting our environment is also important.

**A Monitoring Officer will have**:

- Studied towards or have recently completed a tertiary qualification in Environmental or Resource Management, Planning, Science, or related discipline
- An understanding of the Resource Management Act
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to build positive relationships
- Demonstrated ability to work with people to achieve practical outcomes within the boundaries of legislation
- A high level of oral and written communication skills; the ability to communicate effectively in difficult situations and confront difficult issues
- High level of organisational skills including time management, prioritising and forward planning skills as well as the ability to multi-task
- Current full drivers’ licence
