This position provides an excellent opportunity for an internationally respected senior academic to take on the leadership of the Dodd-Walls Centre.
As a Centre of Research Excellence hosted by the University of Otago, the Dodd-Walls Centre has over 220 researchers and students from six partner institutions, working in quantum optics, photonics and precision atomic physics.
The Centre engages in research, educational outreach and commercialisation activities, with a mission to enhance the acknowledged strength of New Zealand in photonic and quantum science, to support rapidly growing high-tech industries, and to train future researcher leaders in these fields.

**_The Role/Te mahi_**
The Director provides leadership in a collaborative academic environment ensuring the smooth and effective running of the Dodd-Walls Centre. As a member of the Centre's leadership team, the Director will also provide leadership and strategic vision to all researchers and staff collaborating across all institutions involved in the Centre, advancing the Centre’s commitment to excellence in research.
Responsibilities of the role include:
- Executive responsibility for financial matters; ensuring the Centre meets the financial and regulatory obligations and delivers on its agreed programme of work as detailed by the Tertiary Education Commission (TEC) agreed plan.
- Establishing and developing strong networks of collaboration within the Centre, nationally and internationally.
- Establishing and maintaining existing additional streams of funding.
- Promoting and representing the Centre and its membership to key stakeholders including the TEC, broader national and local government agencies, industry partners, education providers, tertiary partners, mana whenua and other interested parties.
The Director will be supported by a collegial academic environment, an active and dynamic research culture, and by efficient professional services across the University and in partner organisations.

- An outstanding track record in research and research leadership in a field aligned with the activities of the Dodd-Walls Centre.
- Experience running a large collaborative research programme.
- An understanding of financial management within a university setting.
- An understanding of basic Tikanga and ability to engage effectively with all partners.

This is a part-time (0.5 FTE), secondement opportunity available for a three-year term.
