Hamilton, New Zealand Waikato Regional Council Full time

We want more good people to come and do great things with us.

We love where we live. That’s why we work so hard to look after our region and the people who live and work in the Waikato region.

Customers sit at the heart of everything we do, and all staff have an important role to play in the delivery of exceptional customer service.

Our work is as diverse as the region we care for; from the tip of the Coromandel Peninsula to the slopes of Ruapehu. We’ve got ambitious goals and there are some tricky issues, but that’s what makes it so interesting.

We’re looking for a summer student who has a passion for our regions rivers and streams and is willing to get their feet wet. Ideally you will be solutions focused with an eye for detail. The role involves working a mix of field work and office-based work alongside our team of ecologists and compliance officers.

**If you join our team you will undertake the monitoring and site investigations for our resource consents and projects. We are looking for you to assist with**:

- Completing freshwater fish presence/ absence surveys and ecological habitat assessments
- Maintain field equipment and collect data from data loggers in the field
- Liaising with landowners
- Ensuring health and safety procedures are implemented to protect you and your colleagues
- Process field data including quality checks and uploading into Council databases
- Preliminary data and GIS analysis
- Building relationships with our operational teams, scientists, and landowners

Waikato Regional Council offer a range of staff benefits including flexible working options, active reward program, health & wellbeing benefits, and a great social club.

We are committed to working more creatively to ‘get work done’ in a way that is of mutual benefit to you, the organisation and our communities.
