Student - Coastal Monitoring

**We’re looking for someone who**:
- We are looking for two students or graduates who are passionate about our moana, eager to spend the summer monitoring the water quality of our beaches around the Waikato rohe, and process coastal ecology invertebrate samples.
- This is a 5-month role where you will work with scientists to undertake State of the Environment (SOE) monitoring over the summer period.
- This is a great opportunity to gain valuable knowledge and practical experience from our leading experts to kick start your career in marine science.

- Currently pursuing or recently completed a tertiary degree in natural, physical or environmental sciences, or a related discipline.
- You are a team player with great communication skills who thrives in a dynamic environment.
- Are self-motivated, have a great attention to detail, and willing to dive into a range of moana projects.
- Are interested in coastal ecology and water quality, and are dedicated to the health of our taiao environment.
- You prioritise safety in the outdoors, hold a full driver’s licence, and want to learn more about how we conduct high calibre environmental monitoring.
- Available to work full time from Early November 2025 until 27 March 2026, based out of our Hamilton office.
**Mō te tūranga**| About the role**:
Join our thriving Coastal Monitoring Team at Waikato Regional Council and have a great summer exploring the beautiful Coromandel and west coast beaches. As a member of our Aquatic Ecology team, you will:
- Regularly collect coastal water samples from our beaches across the Waikato rohe.
- Take field measurements of various water quality parameters with handheld instruments and maintain the instruments.
- Sort estuarine benthic macrofauna samples as per Regional Estuary Monitoring Programme standard operating protocols.
- Learn and get involved in other projects as they arise and associated field or office work.
- Explore Waikato’s coasts (covering long distances)
