**About the role**:
In this role, you will lead the railway operational modelling capability in NRC’s Australian business, primarily through leading technical and program delivery of domestic and international projects. The role will also support the establishment of a regional capability in operational modelling through building a team and supporting the pursuit of consultancy opportunities.

You can be based in Sydney, Melbourne, or Brisbane for this role.

**What you will be involved in**:

- Act as the technical authority on strategic rail operations modelling engagements/projects including accountability for relevant aspects of project delivery and meeting client expectations.
- Lead all aspects of railway operational modelling including capacity modelling, and RAM modelling tools, such as RailSys®, Viriato, RTC and OpenTrack so that NRC has a world leading modelling capability.
- Develop operational modelling service outputs and challenge against Real-World operational considerations to ensure models are optimised to Railway operational needs.
- Support the development of client strategic and final business cases, ensuring operational models are taking account of all relevant planning rules, performance requirements, and realising maximum customer value.
- Prepare and contribute to technical reports and other project outputs.
- Cultivate strong relationships with Network Rail's modelling and simulation team based in Britain.
- Work on interstate / international projects with the possibility of travel, as well as within local project offices.

**Experience & Qualifications**:
Essential
- Significant experience in Rail Operations / Rail Modelling.
- Experience in using software for rail modelling such as Railsys, Railsim and OpenTrack.
- Recent experience of train operations, resource planning, option assessment and risk assessment, timetable planning, including planning of units & crews.
- Ability to follow standards/procedures and ensure your activities are conducted in compliance with relevant administrative, financial, and corporate governance requirements.
- Excellent attention to detail and report writing abilities
- Understanding of working to delivery budgets.
- Experience of specifying or interpreting the output from capacity simulation models.
- Route capacity assessments using railway simulation packages
- An understanding of railway systems being modelled in Australia.

Desirable
- Experience working for a Train / Freight Operating Company.
- International work experience.
- Knowledge of revenue and demand modelling.
- Rolling stock specification.
- Experience of RAM modelling.
- A technical understanding of relevant railway signalling technology (Conventional Fixed Block, ETCS, CBTC).
