**Position Summary**:
This role is a key member of the New Zealand Leadership Team, providing leadership of our commercial and gas strategy and negotiation of contracts including natural gas purchase contracts. This role also manages relationships with external and national stakeholders, including government, regulators and policy makers; strengthening and enhancing Methanex New Zealand’s reputation., in line with our strategic objectives.
**Position Responsibilities**:
- Provide strategic and safety leadership to Methanex New Zealand, driving vision and purpose.
- Provide leadership and governance in the ongoing development and execution of the New Zealand commercial strategies.
- Primarily act as the public face of Methanex New Zealand for national stakeholders; build and maintain key relationships, communicate corporate priorities, strategies, values and business activities and collaborate with the Manager, Stakeholder Relations for alignment on key messaging.
- Coach, performance manage and build long term development plans for the commercial team members so that capability is enhanced.
- Maintain an in-depth knowledge on gas and electricity market intelligence, ensuring we continually monitor key market fundamentals to predict changes that may impact Methanex, including risks and opportunities.
- Develop and foster relationships with suppliers and explorers and work to create win/win business relationships.
- Support Methanex’s existing operations through national level stakeholder mapping and engagement strategies, policy/regulatory analysis, government advocacy, issues management and submissions/support papers to influence public policy.
- Provide support to the Managing Director, New Zealand in the development of contacts and relationships with New Zealand government officials.
- Work with consultants to coordinate and provide advice on government relations, at a national level, to enhance the position of our operations.
- Lead/oversee negotiations to secure gas contracts to meet NZ plant gas requirements and extend plant operations.
- Manage pipeline assets owned by Methanex or pipelines used under contract to ensure cost-effective supply to Methanex facilities.
- Undertake and execute on strategic and operational national stakeholder relations planning.
- Lead the identification, assessment, and negotiation of other commercial opportunities within New Zealand that align with our business strategy of reducing cost, improving efficiency or supporting sustainability.
- Monitor the potential for methanol market development in New Zealand and provide commercial leadership to opportunities.
- As a member of the Leadership Team, provide strategic direction and input into the New Zealand business plan to ensure alignment with the corporate strategy.
**Position Qualifications**:
- Tertiary qualification in Science, Engineering, Economics, Law or other relevant tertiary qualification
- Extensive knowledge of domestic and international energy markets
- Minimum two years’ experience working at senior level management or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Deep understanding of and experience working with government, government advocacy and/ or policymaking processes
- Strong understanding of and experience in the policy making process
- Experience in issues and crisis management
- Superior report writing, communicating and presentation skills
- Ability to influence and manage change
- Business development skills
- Commercial acumen
- Strategy development skills
- People skills necessary to interact and negotiate effectively with a wide range of internal and external associates
- Highly developed analytical and excel spreadsheet modelling skills
