We are looking for an individual to lead a team of talented, passionate professionals who are at the forefront of managing a range of policy and planning projects to shape the future growth and urban form of our city. Within the unit you will be part of a dynamic planning and policy team that has responsibility for:

- The Christchurch District Plan
- Spatial planning including the preparation of a spatial plan for Greater Christchurch
- Responding to the National Policy Statement on Urban Development, strategic transport and land use integration
- Planning for emission reduction and working with coastal communities on climate change adaptation
- The Team also undertakes collaborative planning with sub-regional partners on addressing issues facing the Greater Christchurch area.

As a leader, you will bring a strategic focus but with a high attention to detail so that Christchurch in the future is a sustainable and resilient City, prepared for the challenges that lie ahead.

Working across a range of sectors and with a number of strategic partners, you will have a collaborative attitude and significant experience steering projects and programmes that have delivered exceptional results. Your outstanding technical capabilities and communication skills will help identify and advise elected members and executive managers on emerging challenges and opportunities facing the City.

You will play a vital role in coaching and mentoring team members to help them achieve their goals and ensure projects run smoothly. You'll be supporting the wider leadership team and advising other Council staff on all aspects of strategic planning and the District Plan. You'll ideally have a degree qualification in a planning related discipline with a high level of knowledge in the Resource Management Act and have at least three years' experience in a leadership position.

- Hours of work_ - Mon-Fri, 40 hours per week

- Location_ - This position is primarily based at Te Hononga Civic Offices, 53 Hereford Street

Whilst staff working at the Christchurch City Council are not currently required to be vaccinated, applicants need to be aware that should the COVID-19 environment change, roles across the organisation will be assessed, and the requirement to be vaccinated may be reviewed.
