The OBAF Technical Officer will work closely with and be responsible to the OBAF Manager. The position will be responsible for aspects of the day-to-day operation and maintenance of the OBAF including the recirculation aquaculture system technology and husbandry of salmon. The OBAF Technical Officer will have practical knowledge of technical aspects of salmon aquaculture including recirculation technology, water quality testing, fish biology, commercial aquaculture and WHS. The OBAF Technical Officer will be a good team member, enjoy routine daily tasks and be able to work independently

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
**Operational**

The OBAF Technical Officer will:

- Work under the direction of the OBAF Manager to maintain the operational integrity of the OBAF infrastructure to ensure continuous operation and mínimal disruption, including: asset management, repairs of equipment; maintenance of seawater supply, wastewater treatment and compliance, especially with consent conditions (e.g. allowed water discharge volumes etc).
- Work directly on the introduction and acclimation of new animals the OBAF; the production of stock salmon to meet future research needs; the day-to-day husbandry of experimental salmon according to written protocols (including feeding and record keeping); the termination of experiments and disposal of all biological waste. Be compliant with Animal Ethics approvals and ensure compliance in others.
- Work directly on operational aspects of the OBAF including Recirculating System Operation (Water quality testing and recording, water quality adjustment (e.g. chemical addition, water exchanges)), routine maintenance (e.g. cleaning, generator test runs, equipment calibration and maintenance etc), non-routine maintenance and development (e.g. site vegetation management, system upgrades etc)
- Assist the OBAF Manager in working collaboratively with Skretting representatives in experimental set-up, data collection and recording, experimental take-down and bench marking, while maintaining confidentiality.
- Work with the OBAF Manager to ensure provision of 24 hours back up for emergencies and call outs including alarmed research projects with the objective of minimising any down time. Assist with site security (lock up, camera monitoring etc)
- Assist the OBAF Manager, in activities including: generating purchase orders, keeping accurate records about OBAF technical operations, salmon and water quality, purchasing consumables and equipment.
**Health and Safety**

The OBAF Technical Officer will:

- Promote and comply with all health and safety measures on site.
- Work with the OBAF Manager in establishing innovative and best-work-practices for WHS, environmental sustainability and waste management.
- Interact with other OBAF staff, Skretting staff, visiting researchers and students, the general public and others to promote an enjoyable workplace and a positive reputation for Skretting and the owner of the site land (Sanford) in Okiwi Bay. It is expected that the Technical Officer will maintain good relationships with others at the workplace and in the community wherever possible.
- Will often be required to monitor the site and work at the site alone; and be comfortable doing this.

OBAF is a dynamic operation and flexibility to handle new duties is also required

Some travel and driving will be required from time to time (for example, to collect fish feed from Nelson etc).
