**Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity**
To continue driving our ambitious and successful fundraising initiatives, the University’s Alumni Relations and Development Office has created a new role for a second **Associate Director - Development. **This** **senior leader** **will take responsibility for the fundraisers in the ‘professional’ faculties of Law, Business, Engineering and Education as well as coordinating our planned giving fundraising.
You will be one of the institution’s most senior fundraisers. Working with the Director in planning, implementing, and overseeing all fundraising campaigns. As our Associate Director you will play a central role in leading the development team, with over half of the development managers reporting directly to you.
This role will have a high degree of delegated responsibility and independent authority while regularly reporting to the Director and collaborating closely with the other Senior Managers and Associate Directors within the ARD Office.
**Your key responsibilities include**:
- ** Stakeholder Relationships - **Demonstrate a high level of interpersonal skills through relationship management, advocacy and negotiation. Personally manage a portfolio of 30 - 50 major gift prospects through the cycle of development. Also, work closely in partnership with Faculties & Deans to deliver a coordinated approach.
- ** Staff Leadership - **Provide leadership, mentoring and direction for a team of Development Managers and encourage behaviours aligned to the development and maintenance of a strong inclusive team culture.
- ** Strategy, Planning & Decision Making -** Strategic planning for development activities and contribution to the Development team’s strategic and annual planning.
- ** Engagement** **& Customer Service** - Champion a strong customer service-oriented culture. Also, ensure major donors are recipients of a highly effective programme of acknowledgement, recognition, reporting and engagement.
- ** Continuous Improvement and Project Management - **Refining our fundraising activities and acting as ‘Campaign Manager’ when the University is ‘in Campaign’.

Our team includes Development and Alumni Relations personnel and staff to support them and external foundations by providing a range of activities and communications to build lasting mutually beneficial relationships.
These relationships contribute expertise, advocacy and philanthropic funds that help the University of Auckland to play its part in the developing knowledge and people for the good of Auckland, New Zealand and the global community.

With proven leadership skills, you will value contributions from a variety of sources and be able to inspire and motivate your team and other key stakeholders. This role requires demonstrated experience in client-centric programmes, with additional experience, specifically in fundraising in higher education, non-profit or other appropriate environments.
You will need to demonstrate proven relationship management strengths, with clear evidence of your ability to build successful partnerships and drive strategic direction and effective customer service cultures. This is a senior leadership role working within a collegial and effective team.
In addition, the successful applicant will possess strong analytical ability coupled with an innovative and creative thinking style and robust business and technology acumen.

- Demonstrated experience of managing a high performing, achievement orientated team.
- A proven track record in delivering exceptional relationship building skills with the maturity, perspective, and credibility necessary to influence and connect with internal and external stakeholders.
- High-level communication ability is essential, with verbal, written and interpersonal skills integral to success in this role.
