Auckland City, New Zealand New Zealand Government Full time

**Associate Directors and Managers, Technical Auditing and Accounting**

The Office of the Auditor-General | Te Mana Arotake aims to improve trust and confidence in public services by giving New Zealanders an independent view of government spending and performance. As the statutory auditor of all public organisations, from councils to schools, the Auditor-General's work plays a major part in ensuring that our public sector remains one of the most trusted in the world.

We're looking for Associate Directors and Managers for our Audit Quality Group - a team of experts focused on supporting auditors to carry out audits on behalf of the Office. In this role, you'll strengthen the capability of the team, provide technical leadership, and give high-quality, timely advice.

We're looking for people with recent auditing experience and a genuine interest in improving the way audits are carried out on behalf of the Auditor-General. A special interest in performance reporting and climate reporting would be ideal.

**The Associate Director role involves**:

- managing the development and maintenance of auditing standards and policies on matters relating to external reporting, ethics, and assurance;
- preparing and reviewing advice, audit reports, policies, guidance, instructions, and reference material;
- making submissions to local and international standard-setting bodies; and
- mentoring the technical team.

The Manager role reports to the Associate Director, and will support them in this work.

**To succeed in either role, you'll have**:

- at least five years' practical experience (including audit experience) in several sectors;
- a solid understanding of the Auditor-General's expectations of a public sector audit, including audit independence;
- membership of the CA College of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (or equivalent);
- sound professional judgement and decision-making abilities;
- excellent interpersonal skills and a collaborative working style;
- excellent written and verbal communication skills;
- experience in research and analysis; and
- strong attention to detail and a commitment to meeting deadlines.

As an organisation people matter to us, our independence is critical, we act with integrity, and we're here to make a difference.

**We offer our staff**:

- Ongoing learning and professional development opportunities.
- Supportive hybrid working arrangements (flexible hours/days).
- Health and well-being benefits.
- We value originality and effort. Although AI can be helpful, we require you to submit a cover letter and CV that reflects your own voice and experiences. _

**Applications close Sunday 31 August 2025**.
