**Salary**:$ 118,052 - $ 138,158 + superannuation**

**The role | Te tūnga**
This role will report to the General Manager - Statistical Delivery, Population and Housing. This branch is home to our data experts for demography and (inter-related aspects of) housing quality. It produces timely, relevant, and high-quality population and housing data and statistics and is the lead for the future of census.
As Principal Advisor, you will deliver of expert advice and provide thought leadership to support the needs of a variety of critical stakeholders and customers, including Ministers, Stats NZ senior leaders, Te Tiriti partners, and other government and non-government organisations.
- confidently navigate the space between technical experts and policy-makers - data and statistical literacy and confidence in working with technical experts is required to be successful in this role, but deep technical expertise is not required
- have excellent communication skills - with experience in presenting to, and preparing written advice for, Ministers and senior leaders, as well as both general and technical audiences
- be a strategic thinker - this role will require you to be creative, innovative, and able to traverse, and find solutions to, novel and complex problems
- be politically savvy - know how to identify and utilise appropriate levers of influence to successfully effect change, as well as an in-depth understanding of the machinery of government
- be customer focused - this role will require someone adept at building alignment and alliances between competing interests and agendas, as well as navigating complex customer and stakeholder relationships
- have familiarity with Te Tiriti, Tikanga, Te Ao, and Te Reo Māori, and experience in working with Māori, iwi, hapū, and Te Tiriti partners.
