About Us

The New Zealand Government, specifically Taumata Arowai, is the water services regulator for Aotearoa New Zealand. As a Crown entity governed by a Minister-appointed Board and advised on Māori interests and knowledge by Te Puna, a statutory Māori Advisory Group, our responsibilities include protecting and promoting drinking water safety and related public health outcomes.

Job Overview

We are seeking a Principal Advisor, Risk and Accountability to act as a trusted advisor to senior leadership, providing high-level strategic advice in relation to risk management, official correspondence, accountability documents, and reporting.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide strategic advice to the Chief Executive, Senior Leadership team, and Board members on changes, challenges, opportunities, and risks in the operating environment.
  • Oversee the management of the Success and Uncertainty framework (our risk management framework), including the maintenance of the framework.
  • Oversee and lead the development of strategic analysis for organisational performance and risk management at the Authority.
  • Play a key role in leading the Governance and Performance team towards a strategic, future-thinking model across the support services being provided.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • 10+ years of experience in similar roles or roles with relevant cross-transferrable skills.
  • Demonstrated strong political neutrality and acumen.
  • Demonstrated credibility with senior leaders to engage, influence, and challenge where necessary.
  • Strong understanding of organisational risk management.
What We Offer
