The National Adoption Service is looking for an inspirational and strong leader to supervise the Wellington Adoption Service team and represent this team to other leaders within the Adoption Service National team.

Mō te tūnga | About the role
As Supervisor of the Wellington Adoption Service team, you will manage and lead a team of four Social Workers and one administrator based in central Wellington. Your responsibilities are to work with your team as well as working alongside other stakeholders, to provide services under the Adoption Act 1955, Adult Adoption Act 1985, and Adoption (Inter-country) Act 1997.

**The Adoption Service work includes**:

- supporting adults who have historically placed a child for adoption and those who were adopted
- training, educating and assessing adoptive applicants - domestic and international adoptions
- facilitating the placement of children in adoptive homes
- working with birthparents who are exploring adoption
- assessing applicants who are having a child through a surrogacy arrangement - both domestically and internationally
- writing reports to Court
- writing Child Study requests and Home Studies for intercountry adoptions

Ngā pūmanawatanga ōu | What you will bring

In this role you will be a leader of practice and create a culture of ongoing learning within the team Your ability to quickly work through complex information to make solid and safe decisions is valued. You will also be comfortable managing people - thinking about their kaimahi ora as well as be able to have some important conversations that are challenging.
- Registered with the Social Work Registration Board and hold a current Practice Certificate
- In-depth working knowledge and experience of the Adoption Act 1955, Adult Adoption Information Act 1985, the Adoption (Intercountry) Act 1997 and other legislation underpinning Oranga Tamariki activity
- Strong cultural competency and be a promoter of working with our practice framework
- Understanding and appreciation of cross-cultural issues, in particular, knowledge of tikanga Māori, and Pacific peoples' culture
- Ability to understand and interpret our organisation's practice guidelines and operational policy
- Success in leading and supporting other social workers and/or initiatives that improve the quality of social work practice
- Ability to identify risks and know when to escalate and consult
- Demonstrated critical thinking and problem-solving techniques.
- A high degree of both verbal and written communication skills as well as collaboration and facilitation skills
- Resilient, motivated and a caring nature with a positive "can do" attitude even when working under pressure
- A valid and clean New Zealand's driver's licence and ability to travel as required.
