You will support a significant programme of work to ensure Waikato Regional Council remains a leader in the implementation of the National Policy Statement for Freshwater Management.

Reporting to the Water Policy Team Leader, you will work alongside 3 other senior policy advisors and 2 intermediate policy advisors to contribute towards large scale regional plan changes around water management.

**About you**:
Our Resource Management section is looking for someone with experience working in local or central government environmental policy or planning, either under the Resource Management Act 1991, in the development of bylaws, or in another relevant capacity.

The person we’re after will be able to work with our stakeholders to maintain and improve alignment with regional policy through positive working relationships and formal processes. You will also have proficiency in policy writing.

**Qualifications & Experience**:

- Have a relevant tertiary qualification in policy, planning, law, resource management, or similar, and experience in a relevant field.
- Ideally have ~5 years relevant experience.
- Have a working knowledge of local or central government and the relevant legislative environment.
- Working knowledge of the Resource Management Act and Schedule 1 processes.
- Be an articulate and compelling communicator with strong writing and presentation skills.
- Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders.
- Be a constructive team member who actively contributes to the positive culture of the team.
